Created as part of a Nov 2021 DevPost Mixed Reality Challenge, Conch Republic VR was my entry into Microsoft’s StereoKit Mixed Reality challenge. This challenge focused on the use of “Code-first” StereoKit and other OpenXR components to create a Mixed reality application.

Things I really liked about using StereoKit included its ability to present grabbable windows and menus using only one line of code, almost declarative in nature. Its ‘stepper’ framework was pretty easy. The hardest part in using StereoKit was in the ‘placement’ of models, using Pose and Matrix components. These use Vector3 and Quaternion types which are pretty normal in gaming software, however without a WYSIWYG type of UI to create (e.g. Unity), manually creating these could be a little challenging. That said, the creation of interactive UIs using a line of code was pretty neat and I would revisit as more features are added to the toolkit.
